Likewise, transgender individuals who have transitioned as adults also testify that they knew, at these same early ages, that something about their gender was different. Now, when adults come out as transgender, I understand how people might be inclined to think that something so different, something so out of the norm, must be the result of some dysfunction somewhere along the line. But two- and three-year-olds are so innocent that, personally, I believe they are speaking not out of dysfunction but out of their purity and innocence. I believe they are speaking their truth. And my belief that they are speaking their truth inclines me to believe that transgender adults who say they have always known, since they too were innocent children, are also speaking out of the truth of their divinely created being, and not out of any dysfunction.
